Instant booking available One of Uganda's more popular parks, Murchison covers 3,840 square kilometre and is one of the few parks in the country where you can spot Rothchild's giraffe (the only other park is Kidepo in the north). The Falls were discovered in 1870 by an explorer called Sir Samuel Baker and were named after the President of the National Geographic Society, who sponsored his expedition.
Your tour will include a game drives on the open plains, which are dotted with exotic Borassus Palms and which are a particular habitat for Ugandan Kob. You can also expect to see a parade of Elephant, Lion, Topi, Buffalo and Warthog, to name a few.
You will also take the scenic launch cruise along the river, to the base of the falls. Along this 17km stretch of river are Elephant, Hippo, Buffalo, Waterbuck and an abundance of Crocs! The birdlife is also prolific, and includes the enigmatic and unique 'dinosaur bird', the Shoebill Stork. The boat trip climaxes at the foot of the falls where the river explodes through a 7-metre cleft in the rock, thundering down a drop of approximately 43 metres.
