Journey to the Center of the Earth

Duration: 7 day(s) - Location: Buila Vanturarita Natural Park

The Buila Vanturarita caves are natural wonders nested in the southern range of the Carpathian Mountains.

This exploration journey combines outdoor adventures such as hiking, bird watching and tent accommodation under clear skies, with spectacular views of the underworld.

6 caves await the traveler for a wild and challenging expedition that provides instruction and experience in basic rock climbing while navigating through this amazing underground
environment. No previous climbing experience is necessary.

In the North-Eastern part of Buila Vanturarita National Park, the rivers Cheia and Olanesti carved Comarnicelor Gorges one of the deepest and wildest in the country, with 1 km of waterfalls, erosion holes, steps, walls as narrow as 2 m and as tall as 300 m, and respectively Mânzului Gorges. In this magnificent area join us to explore beautiful marble and crystal filled chambers, climb waterfalls, see ancient fossils and squeeze through some tight passages.

Living Caves: All of the Buila Vanturarita caves are alive, meaning the formations, which
result when minerals are deposited by dripping water, are still changing.

Some of the caves are dry, but most of them are wet sheltering unique wildlife such as bats.

Inside temperatures, although varying from cave to cave, remain the same year-round, usually ranging from 8 to 12 degrees.

While exploring the Buila Vanturarita caves, you can enjoy:
  • Limestone stones, slopes and horns views and climbing
  • Unique and protected flower habitats such as the lion's foot
  • Wildlife watching
  • Visits to the sheepfolds around the area
